Liner Berths Unaided

(Rec. 11-30 p.m.) SOUTHAMPTON, March 22. The 27,000-ton Union Castle liner Cape Town Castle berthed at Southampton today without the aid of tugs. Office staff of the company helped tie up the liner and put the gangways in position. Some 10,000 dockers are on strike at Southampton, but they handled passengers’ luggage after the liner had docked. The master, Captain Jack Tryaner, said afterwards: “It took a little more time than normal, but we did not crack an eggshell.” A United States Lines spokesman said today that it was planned to bring the rica into Southampton tomorrow.*
