Brisbane Yearling Sale
(Rec. 11 p.m.) BRISBANE, March 19.
A record Queensland average price of 334 J guineas was paid at the two-day Brisbane yearling sales which ended today. The average price last year was slightly more than 285 guineas. The sales in the two days this year totalled 207 for 69.360 guineas. This is a record turnover for Queensland. The previous record was 64,480 guineas in 1955.
A New Zealander, Mr Cyril Neville, owner of the 1952 Melbourne Cup winner, Dalray, accepted 600 guineas on behalf of his wife for a brown colt by Golden Souvenir from Loving. The buyer was J. Maudis, of Charleville.
Newspaper Price Increase.—The New York “World-Telegram and Sun,” an evening newspaper, announced today it would increase its newstand price from tomorrow from five cents to ten cents a copy. There were unconfirmed reports that other New York newspapers were planning increases.—New York, March 18.
