NEW FACTORY PLANNED
Yeast And Vinegar Supplies
A new factory which is to be built in Blenheim road, opposite 4he junction of Hansons lane, is planned to supply 60 per cent ,of the yeast for breadmaking in New Zealand, and most of the country’s vinegar requirements. The owners. Dominion Compressed Yeast Company, Ltd., hope to complete the factory by 1959 or early in 1960. they advised the Christchurch Drainage Board. They urged the board to reconsider the possibility of an earlier extension of sewerage facilities in the growing industrial and State housing area around Blenheim road. If the board found itself unable to proceed with the early completion of its Blenheim road plaps, the company asked that it suggest alternative temporary means of disposing of the company’s wastes.
The board had approved a proposal by the Ministry of Works to pump effluent from State houses west of Hansons lane along Blenheim road to the reticulation sewer in Wharenui road, the construction committee reported. If the pumping main was extended to the present end of the southern trunk sewer at Division street, waste water from the new factory could be pumped through it. Such an arrangement would require the agreement of the Ministry.
