BAY OF PLENTY BY-ELECTION
Three Candidates In Contest
(New Zealand Press Association) WHAKATANE, March 15.
Three candidates had been named for the Bay of Plenty byelection when nominations closed at noon today. They are Mr P. B. Allen, a Rotorua plastering contractor (National Party); Mr R. J. Pedley, a Palmerston North dairy farmer (Liberal Federation); and Mr T. G. Santon, a Taneatua dairy farmer (Labour Party). Mr J. Hill-Motion, president of the New Zealand Liberal Federation, said in Whakatane today that his party planned to use the by-election campaign to present its policy to the country. “We resent being called dissenting. Social Crediters,” he said. “We are dissenting Nationalists, but. we see a danger for the country in socialism.”;. Mr Hill-Motion said he had been a Social Credit candidate at the last General Election, but had been sorry immediately his nomination had been made.
