SYRIAN OIL PIPELINE
Repair Work Begins
(N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, March 9. The Iraq Petroleum Company announced today that repairs, to the sabotaged oil pipelines in Syria, began today, the American Associated Press reported from Damascus. A company spokesman said, according to the agency, that a 20man British repair team had then left immediately for the Syrian desert to start emergency repairs. The spokesman said, according to the Associated Press, that the emergency repairs were expected to be carried out within a week. This would allow the company to resume pumping 11 million tons of Iraqi oil across Syria every year. The oil goes to Britain and Europe. Permission to make the repairs was obtained by the company from the Syrians last Thursday. The pipelines were sabotaged during the British-French-Israeli action in Egypt. y
