ICEBREAKER SAILS
* Glacier Leaves For U.S. ’ In heavy rain, the United States Navy icebreaker Glacier sailed from Lyttelton at 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon for Lima, Peru, on the first stage of her voyage to the United States. The rain did not deter some 400 to 500 people who were on the wharf to watch the departure of the vessel, and the waterfront in the vicinity was packed with cars. Several of the crew threw their white hats to friends on the wharf before the Glacier moved out. Three hoots from the Glacier’s two-toned siren as she backed out were answered by several blasts from the raucous siren of the Federal Line ship Hertford, mooted nearby.
