The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce suggests there will be a shortage of juniors from 1958 to 1960. Last year the roll registers of secondary schools showed that 6800 pupils left school after three years’ education. This year the number is expected to be 6050. In 1958, however, only 2100 thirdyear pupils are expected to leave school. The number will drop even further the following year to an expected 1325. In 1960 a rise to 2525 is expected and a total of 4250 the following year. The estimated total for 1962 is 8600, with a further rise in 1963 to 9250. The figures are from the i Wellington chamber’s news letter.
