MIDGET RECORDS BROKEN Five New Zealand midget car records were broken at the Aranui Speedwav on Saturday evening. lan Holden (Auckland) drove his VB-60 Curtis Craft midget in a special attempt to break the one, two, four, six, and eight-lap open class midget car records. After a preliminary warm-up lap, Holden started on eight laps at top speed. Each of the records was broken during these eight laps. Holden said afterwards that he was unable to stay at peak revolutions on the corner. This had caused him to slide out somewhat. He would probably have done much better with a lower gearing. Driving off the back mark of 100 yards, Holden displayed masterly driving by working his way through a field of 10 other cars in the first race. He had nearly succeeded in the second race when D. Miller spun out on the south bend. The lour other cars behind Miller were unable to avoid him, and they finished up piled up partially blocking the track. No-one was hurt.
