N.Z. PIPE BAND CONTEST

Wellington City’s Success (New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, March 3. City of Wellington won the A grade aggregate for the third year in succession when the New Zealand pipe bands championships were continued here yesterday. Hamilton Caledonian were runners-up, 15£ points behind Wellington. The B grade aggregate was won by City of Hastings, with Timaru second. The three days of the championships were marked by ideal weather. The judges spoke highly of the performance of the leading bands, particularly City of Wellington. It won the quickstep, the selection, the drum majors’ display, the street march, and the A grade inspection. TO COMPETE IN SCOTLAND CHAMPION PIPE BAND (New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, March 3. It was announced at the conclusion of the New Zealand pipe bands’ contest in Wanganui today that the champion pipe band of the Dominion, City of Wellington, will make a trip to Scotland next year, representing New Zealand at various Scottish festivals. This will be the first occasion a New Zealand pipe band has made a tour abroad. The 8.8. C. is interested 'in the visit and pipe band officials in Scotland will arrange a suitable itinerary. A campaign for funds to enable the band to make the trip has been i launched, and it was announced that £lOO was collected in Wanganui today.
