DROWNINGS IN FEBRUARY

11 Deaths In N.Z. (plew Zealand Press Association) . WELLINGTON, March 3. Six children 10 years of age and under and five adults were accidentally drowned last month. This is one fewer than for February last year. In a statement today, the National Water Safety Council said the drop last, month, compared with 29 drownings in January, was encouraging, as beaches were probably more crowded last month than for years. Three of the children and three adults lost their lives last month in rivers. One child was drowned in a cattle trough, one in a lake, and one in a water hole. The other adult deaths occurred in a beach and a bay. “A most distressing ' feature.” states the council, “is the continued loss of young lives. It is a reminder, to parents that they must keep a constant watch on the young ones. Only in this way can they safeguard them against the danger of drowning.”
