Posthumous Award Of Hollywood Prize
(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 3. Janies Dean has been named posthumously the best actor of 1956 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Kim Novak won the best actress award, and “Around The World in 80 Days” was named the best Holly wood-nroduced film. The association’s “Henrietta” awards are determined by an international poll conducted by newspapers, magazines, cinemas and radio and television stations in 48 countries.
The association tabulates the results. The producer, Mervyn Le Roy, received the Cecil B. De Mille award, made in recognition of outstanding achievements and contributions to the industry. Hollywood merit awards included:— Best dramatic actor, Kirk Douglas. for "Lust for Life.” Best dramatic actress, Ingrid Bergman, “Anastasia.” Best comedian, Cantinflas (Mario Moreno) in “Around the World in 80 Days.” Best actress, in comedy or musical, Deborah Kerr, “The King and I.” Best supporting actor, Earl Holliman, “Tlie Rainmaker.”
Best supporting actress. Eileen Heckard. "The Bad Seed.” The “Henrietta” awards—to Dean. Miss Novak and Le Roy—are not based on any single films, ’ but on international popularity, ’ the association said. . Dean, who was killed in a motor accident in 1955. appeared in only three Hollywood films.
