Film Society’s Meeting
The lack of films on Christchurch in the National Film Library was discussed by the Christchurch Film Society at its annual meeting. The president (Mr H. P. Smith) said in the annual report that the film library advised that it had nothing on Christchurch other than scenes of Christchurch in the film “Canterbury Is a Hundred.” The meeting referred the question to the incoming committee for discussion. In appreciation of the National Film Library’s work for the society since it was formed 10 years ago, the committee has purchased a film recommended by the library, “The Rival World,” a colour production by an oil company. Mr Smith said that the membership was 340 on January 31, compared with 316 at the beginning of last year. “The club’s financial position .is good,” he said. “The accounts show that the society has an excess of expenditure over income of £55. Finance is no worry.” Last year’s deficit was £4O 14s Bd. Included in this year’s accounts are depreciation of £27 12s 4d and the cost of the film given to the National Film Library which was £3O 9s sd. After the meeting, the film “Christchurch, the Garden City,” a colour production by Roy Evans, was shown. Officers elected were:— Patron, Sir Ernest Andrews; president. Mr H. P. Smith; vicepresidents, Messrs J. M. Caffin, A. P. Gainsford, and R. A. Evans; committee, Mrs E. M. Trueman, Messrs W. J. Humphries, C. Stewart, "W. D. Woods, A. J. Lewis, R. Bailey, W. R.
