Dock Clerks’ Strike

Ships queued for berths at the mouth of the river Thames today as a dock strike continued at Tilbury and in part of the central London docks.

Nearly 3500 dockers were idle at the Tilbury, West India and Millwall docks, and the handling of 41 ships was at a standstill because a stoppage by 260 tally clerks, key men who check the cargoes.

They are protesting against the employment of five unregistered tally clerks.
