AGED PERSONS IN ISOLATION

COUNCIL WISHES TO MAKE CONTACT The Aged People’s Welfare Council is most anxious to get in touch with elderly persons who spend their whole time isolated in their homes entirely cut-off from contact of any kind with others. Dr. H. R. Donald, chairman of the executive of the Aged People’s Welfare Council in Christchurch,-, announced last evening that the council has engaged an occupational therapist to provide and stimulate interests and occupations for these elderly persons. Miss J. Sturgiss, formerly senior occupational therapist at the Queen Mary Hospital, Hanmer Springs, has her equipment ready to begin immediately. Dr. Donald said that he would greatly. appreciate anyone who knew of elderly persons living in self-imposed isolation and lacking the confidence and ability to make the necessary contacts, informing the council so that the organisation could make a direct visit. It is the intention of the council to organise suitable interests and entertainment for aged persons by . making the services of Miss Sturgiss available to either organisation or individuals. Miss Sturgiss would discuss the work with anyone who applied to the council.
