N.Z. INSURANCE CONCERNS

Agencies In Cairo

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) AUCKLAND, January 16.

The general manager of the New Zealand insurance Company, Ltd. (Mr W. J. O’Brien) said in Auckland today that his company had an agency in Cairo ,but up to now it had not been regarded as a British company by the authorities. It was not clear whether the latest Egyptian move was blanket nationalisation.

However, the company had begun closing down its operations in Egypt 18 months ago. Any loss’ arising from nationalisation would be slight. A spokesman for the South British Insurance Company, Ltd., said that a decision had been made before the crisis to curtail writings in * the Middle East, thus grfeatly reducing any financial loss the company might normally have expected.
