Endeavour Near Base Site

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 5. H.M.N.Z.S. Endeavour ar- . rived eight miles east of Butter Point, the New Zealand base site in McMurdo Sound, at 6 p.m. on Friday, according to a message received in Wellington. The United States task force commander (Rear-Ad-miral George J. Dufek) had arranged a reconnaissance flight in a helicopter to the Scott Base site for the leader (Sir Edmund Hillary) and the deputy-leader (Mr J. H. Miller). The tractor route reconnaissance party was due to leave the ship in an hour. The message reported that all was well.
