ACCOMMODATION NEEDED

More offers of accommodation are needed if all of the 50 Hungarian refugees who are expected to arrive in Christchurch early this week are to be satisfactorily housed.

The immigration officer at the Department of Labour and Employment in Christchurch (Mr R. H. Bell) said last evening that accommodation was still needed for two families, each comprising man and wife and one child, and two families, each comprising man and wife and two children.

“We are simply hoping that offers of accommodation will be forthcoming.” he said, “so that the people can be brought here as scheduled. We have got to find homes for them somewhere and if Christchurch cannot match it we will have to make some other arrangements.”
