REDCRAZE BACK IN WORK
Autumn Campaign Planned (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY. January 6. The champion New Zealand stayer, Redcraze, is back with his trainer, T. J. Smith, at Randwick looking better than ever after a spell at Pennant Hills, 20 miles out of the city. Redcraze, whose cracked heels are now better, exercised at a trot and canter at Randwick yesterday. Smith said the first important race Redcraze would contest this autumn would be the £lO,OOO Queen Elizabeth Stakes, at Flemington on March 11. He probably would have only one Sydney start before then, Smith said. The Queen Elizabeth Stakes is a maximum top-weight event, in which Redcraze will not have to "carry the grandstand.” Smith said Redcraze would be entered for the Sydney Cup at Easter, and the Brisbane Cup in June, but whether he started would depend on the weight allotted. As Redcraze carried 10-3 and finished second in the Melbourne Cup, it is not likely he will get under 10 stone in any important handicap.
