REDEMPTORIST ORDER
DOMINION CREATED VICE PROVINCE
So great has been the development of the Redemptorist Order in New Zealand, that the order’s authorities in Rome have created New Zealand a vice-province. The Rev. Father C._ E. Dennehy, rector of the Redemptorist Monastery in Christchurch, received this advice from Rome yesterday.
Since it was first established in New Zealand 50 years ago, the order in New Zealand has come under the jurisdiction of the General Superior in Australia. Now the order will be autonomous in this country, and will have its own superior.
The Rev. Father Reginald O’Connell is the superior of the new vice-province, and he will reside in Wellington. The Rev. Fathers Eric Dwyer and Thomas Dunphy will assist him as consuitors.
The Rev. Father R. Selleck has been appointed rector of the Christchurch monastery, and he will have as his consultors the Rev. Fathers Dennehy and A. Glover.
Other appointments are: the Rever Father John Moran, rector of the new house in Dunedin; the Rev. Father M. Branagan, rector of St. Gerard’s, Wellington; the Rev. Father C. Rohan, rector of the Auckland house; the Rev Father P. Dobbs, director of the minor seminary, Auckland.
