Mrs Arthur Morris English-born wife of the former Australian cricket vice-captain died in Sydney last night after a long illness Morris met his wife then Miss Valerie Hudson while on tour with the Australian cricketers in England. She was a showgirl and model. They were married in Sydney in September 1954.
Thirteen months later. Mrs Morris became seriously ill. and Morris announced his retirement from first-class cricket. The announcement disappointed Australian cricket circles as Morris had been one of the Commonwealth’s strongest batting hopes for the 1956 tour of England. Then Mr Vivian van Damm, of London’s Windmill Theatre, offered £lOOO for Morris to take his wife to England for treatment. The Morrises went to England where Morris reported the tour for newspapers and his wife underwent treatment. They returned last October.
