No U.S. Loan For Hungary

'N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Dec. 26 An official of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development said today that Hungary was not eligible for a loan. He had been asked to comment on an American Associated Press report from Budapest which said Hungary was seeking a 100 million dollars loan. The official said that Hungary was not a member of the organisation and therefore was not eligible for a loan of any amount. The Vice-President, Mr Richard Nixon, who has just returned from a visit to Austria, urged the United States tonight to double its contributions for Hungarian refugee relief. He spoke briefly from Washington on a special Hungarian relief television and radio broadcast. “We need to do twice what we have already done,” Mr Nixon said. “If you had seen these fine people, I know you would consider it a privilege to make your contributions.”
