NEW RAILWAY STATION
LAST FOUNDATION PILE DRIVEN The last of about 900 piles which form the foundation of the new railway station in Moorhouse avenue was driven on Friday evening. Work began last April but was held up during the wet winter months and for the last two months a double fourman shift has been worked to finish the job by Christmas. The method of piling, for which bored pre-cast bulbed piles were used, is new. and was developed to suit conditions at the station. Some experimenting was necessary to perfect it. . x Already quite a lot of concrete has been poured in the basement and the next step is to finish the pouring of the capping of the pile groups, and the walls. It is hoped that this will be finished by the autumn.
