“The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, December 25. Fields are slightly smaller than they were on the first day, for the second day of the Manawatu Racing Club’s summer meeting at Awapuni tomorrow. The double is on the Louisson Memorial Handicap and the Palmerston North Hack Cup. Fresh horses, in Port Rush, Anod and Black Oak, which raced well at Otaki and Levin recently, should be good prospects for the first leg. and of the horses which ran in the Manawatu Cup on the first day. Pine Grove and Maquana should do best.
The most fancied group for the second leg of the double are Gilt and Gay Jinx, which were second and third to Mediterranean on the first day, and Movietone, which was placed at his last two starts. There has been some rain since the first day on Saturday, but the weather appears settled and the track should be fast. Selections:— 11.15 a.m.—Tiritea High-weight: Lloma, Don’t Know’, Coral’s Son. 11.55 a.m.—Novice Plate—First Division: Scottish King, Booby’s Gift. Second Division: Peter Baffles, Tensing. 12.43 p.m.—Louisson Memorial Handicap: Port Rush, Maquana, Anod. 1.23 p.m.—Himatangi Handicap: Broadacre, Dark Knight, Dandolo. 2 3 p.m.—Wood Handicap: Noumea, Warwick, Summersette. 2.45 p.m.—Palmerston North Hack Cup: Gilt, Gay Jinx, Movietone. 3.25 p.m.—Apprentices’ Hack Handicap: Arran, Omanette, Tramontana. 4.10 p.m.—Kelvin Handicap: Gundar Haegg, Beau Ray, Bright Arrow.
