MOUNTAIN BRIGADE’S GOOD WIN PACEMAKER FIRST IN SECOND LEG (New Zealand Press Association) GORE, Dec. 23. The Gore Trotting Club’s summer meeting opened in overcast weather yesterday, and was affected by intermittent showers during the afternoon. There was a drop in the financial returns. The totalisator handled £25,528 10s (doubles £2012), compared with £27,531 (doubles £2382) on the first day last year, a decrease of £2002 10s. The Mountain Brigade-Pacemaker (coupled Hudson Bay) combination paid a doubles dividend of £36 17s for £l. After the running of the Gore Trotting Cup, an inquiry was held into the form shown by Compo Jack, owned, trained and driven by P. P. Gallagher, whose explanation that the horse was suffering from a recurrence of kidney trouble was accepted. The report of the stipendiary steward stated that Compo Jack would not be raced again on the southern circuit this year.
