IMPORT CONTROL ON LOADER SHOVELS
Import control has been reimposed on loader shovels and several other categories of farm implements. The text of the announcement from the Customs Department is as follows:
The Import Control Exemption Withdrawal Notice (No. 3) 1956, which will come into force on January 1, 1957, withdraws the exemptions from import licensing on the following goods:—
“Loader shovels or scoops for mounting on tractors and being specially designed for farm use; buckrakes, bale loaders; “Power driven spray pumps including outfits therefor, as may be approved by the Minister, specially suited for agricultural uses.
“These goods will be *C’ for licensing purposes on and after January 1 next, but any shipments in transit to New Zealand on December 19, 1956, will be admitted without the requirement of a licence. Applications for licences in respect of firm orders placed overseas before December 19. 1956, should be lodged with Collectors of Customs. Such applications should be supported by the copy of the order and the original of the advice of acceptance by the overseas supplier.” Canterbury’s Sheep and Crops.—A graph on this page on Saturday showed trends in the number of ewes in New Zealand, the number of ewes in Canterbury, and the acreage sown in “crops’’ in Canterbury.
