FARMERS’ EXTENSION CLUBS
A South Canterbury farmer who was recently in Auckland saw something of the organisations set up in certain farming areas to take into the hands of farmers agricultural instruction work in the various districts. Ir. some areas 40 or 50 farmers, he said, combine and set bp a dub and appoint a suitable advisory officer who works along with a committee. The organisations appear to be highly successful, and the increase in production bears this out. The club form of instruction, said our informant, is along the lines which future advisory work will proceed. Farmers spoken to weie very definite on the matter, as they said the present set-up was far too remote. It is interesting to note that the movement is taking on in the South Island as well as in the North. Some of those spoken to in the North said the club movement was simple, direct, and efficient.
