5,000,000 Birds Sprayed To Death

Three colonies of about 5,000,000 finches were destroyed by spraying from the air in the Reitz district of the Orange Free State recently. The aerial extermination, which took place on two farms and on a plantation near the town, was organised by Dr. E. Naude. of the Department of Agriculture. The operation is being continued in other districts. The finches are regarded as a menace to wheat farmers.
