BAND PLAYS IN SQUARE

A.T.C. SQUADRON

GROUP

The drum, trumpet and bugle band of No. 17 Squadron of the Air Training Corps played in Cathedral Square early last evening after marching from the corner of High and Manchester streets.

The band, which was formed a little more than two years ago, has 40 members. It comprises a drum corps of 12 guard drums, two tenor drums and a base dnum. Its trumpet and bugle section has 25 trumpets and bugles. Boys in the band range in ages from 12 to 17.

Recently the band went to Nelson to take part in the ceremony at which the Nelson Squadron of the corps was presented with the efficiency trophy for the best squadron in New Zealand.

The bandmaster is Flight Lieutenant J. L. Napier, who was formerly bandmaster of the drum, trumpet and bugle bond of the Otago Regiment, and of the drum, trumpet and bugle band of the Southland Boys’ High School which played at the Wellington centennial exhibition in 1940.
