WESLEY LODGE HOSPITAL

16 SPECIAL BEDS GIVEN

Sixteen beds have now been given to the Wesley Lodge Hospital for the Aged Sick. The chairman of the Wesley Lodge Eventide Home and Hospital Committee (the Rev. W. D. Falkingham) said yesterday that since the last meeting of the committee beds had been given by Sir Ernest Andrews and Lady Andrews. Mr Frederick Law’s and Mrs Laws, Mr S. W. Ayers and Mrs Ayers (in memoray of their son. Mr D. Ayers), and an anonymous donor.

The beds, which cost £5O each, are adjustable to the nursing height or the ordinary height. They are made in Dunedin from an American pattern At a meeting of the committee on Wednesday evening a special commit teejvas set up to consider the staffing of rhe new* hospital. The special committee will investigate the possibility of having the hospital staffed by a commercial firm on a contract basis. Sister Macadam, of Wairau Hospital. was appointed sister-in-charge She will take up her duties in April. The committee has decided to apply to the Government for an additional subsidy of 75 per cent, to cover the cost of amendments and additions to the original plan. These include the piping of oxygen to each ward, a flat for the matron, additional laundry equipment, and a new office in the eventide home.

The contractor reported that the work is up to schedule. The slate roof has been put on. the floors are laid, and the central heating equip ment has been installed.
