Soviet Rifle And FN Compared
(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. Details of the performance of Russian automatic rifles captured in Port Said compared with the Belgian FN rifle issued to NATO forces were given by the Minister of War (Mr John Hare) answering a House of Commons question. He said the Russian rifle, with the bayonet, was lib lighter than the NATO rifle and bayonet. It was not capable of automatic fire and could not be used as a light machine-gun as could the FN rifle with a heavy barrel and dipod. The Russian rifle held 10 rounds compared with the FN’s 20. The Russian bullet was lighter, had a lower - muzzle velocity and less stopping power than the NATO bullet. The Russian bayonet was not detachable.
