GIRL GUIDE CAMP AT MARTON

100th Anniversary Of

Founder’s Birth

About 1000 guides will attend a Dominion camp, which is being held on the property of Mrs Alan Marshall, “Tutu Totara,” Marton, to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the founder of the Girl Guide movement, Lord Baden-Powell. . The camp will open on January 1 for .10 days. Guides will come from all parts of New Zealand, as well as from the Cook Islands and Western Samoa. A special train will take the South Island and Wellington guides to Marton on January 1, and the same day a special daylight express will run from Auckland. There will be a staff of 250 leaders in the camp. A committee has been working on the plans for the camp for two years. Arranging a camp for 1250 people is like setting up a small town. There will be a hospital, post office, bank, and canteen at the camp, and daily newspapers will be published. An attractive programme will include swimming, a day’s excursion, a pageant for visitors’ day, sports and hiking. Her Excellency, Lady Norrie, will visit the camp on January 8.
