Penguin As Father Christmas On Antarctic Christmas Card
A cheerful penguin Father Christmas (shown below), standing in front of Antarctic mountains with snowflakes falling around him, appears on the personal Christmas card which Don Guy, the American Associated Press correspondent at McMurdc Sound, has sent to his friends. Mr Guy, the United States Navy and Air Force, and two Christchurch firms all shared in the production of the card McMurdo Sound is 2200 miles away from printers and artists, and when Mr Guy decided to have a persona] Christmas card printed he had to de
« ■ - • • • - quite a lot bf the work himself. He drew the illustration, and then transferred it to a piece of the linoleum which had been supplied to the United States Navy by a Christchurch firm. With assistance from the Seabees workshop at the base. Mr Guy mounted his lino cut. and then sent the block to Christchurch in am Air Force Globemaster. A friend in Christchurch arranged to have the cards printed by a local firm, and (hey were ready for posting to Mr Guy’s friends in the United States and elsewhere.
