N.Z. BRASS BANDS’ CHAMPIONSHIP

WOOLSTON TO COMPETE IN A GRADE

The Woolston Brass Band, the present New Zealand A grade champion band, will definitely compete in the New Zealand A grade brass bands’ chamoionship at Napier in February. The band’s name was omitted from the list of entries in a Press Association message from Wellington pub lished in “The Press’’ yesterday.

The championships will begin on February 22. but instead of the usual week will last only three days. The shorter time has been made possible by deleting one item from the programme for each grade. The reason for the change is to lessen the burden of accommodation expenses on visiting bands.

In spite of several changes in membership, the Woolston band was fully up to standards of previous years, and he expected the band to perform well at Napier, said the band’s conductor, Mr D. S. Christensen, last evening.
