WALLABIES IN BRITAIN

(Rec. 7 p.m.) DERBY, Dec. 16. Wallabies, believed to have escaped some years ago from a private zoo, have been seen by hikers in the Derbyshire peak district. Lord Scarsdale, president of the Derbv branch of the R.S.P.C.A., said to-night that apparently the wallabies had not only survived by a miracle of nature, but were multiplying in spite of the severity of the English climate. Lord Scarsdale appealed to people not to molest the wallabies. Lord Scarsdale said that on the North Derbyshire moors there were manv shallow, natural caves which small animals like the wallaby could find and which could make warm, dry shelters. It is thought that there may be more than a score of Wallabies m the area.
