CLEARING SUEZ CANAL

No U.N. Agreement; More Delay (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, December 17. The dispute between Egypt and Britain and France over clearing the Suez Canal was deadlocked at the United Nations yesterday, threatening more delay in opening the canal to shipping. The Egyptian Foreign Minister (Dr. Mahmoud Fawzi) issued a statement saying Egypt agreed to use British salvage ships, but their British and French crews would be barred. British and French delegation spokesmen told correspondents their Governments would not allow the United Nations to use the equipment without the British and French crews. It was considered that the deadlock might keep a United Nations-sponsored international salvage team from taking advantage of British and French salvage resources, now at Port Said and ready to go to work.
