METHODIST CENTRAL MISSION

As most of the apprentices who live at Rehua Maori Hostel will leave by the steamer express on Wednesday evening to spend Christmas with their families in the North Island, the Christchurch Central Mission held a Christmas dinner party for them at the hostel last evening. Guests of honour were members of the hostel committee and items were given by residents of the hostel. The mission also served Christmas dinner recently to elderly persons who regularly partake of the organisation’s hot meal service during the year, at headouarters in Cambridge terrace. On Sunday evening a colourful Christmas oageant depicting the Three Wise Men. the Shepherds and the Manger, was held at the Cambridge Terrace Methodist Church. A Christmas “thank you” narty will be held by the mission at the Cambridge Terrace Methodist Church’s hall this evening to entertain voluntary workers. This function is held annually as a gesture of appreciation to members of the mission’s Goodwill Department, cooks of the hot m n °ls service, and other helpers. Christmas parcels are now being' packed at the mission to be distributed next Monday to old folk living alone to needv families in Christchurch. The superintendent nf the mission (the Rev. W. F. Falkingham) said yesterday that he would be nleased to receive the names and addresses of any persons who into these two categories. “Though we have a wide coverage, it is to miss out pc*o»->la we would like tn remember at their addresses—narticularlv of ->ide»'iv folk who have no one +o care for them.” Mr Falkingham said.
