REFUGEES FROM HUNGARY

366 MORE TO COME WITHIN MONTH FIVE PLANES CHARTERED (New Zealand. Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 17. Five planes have been chartered to bring 366 more Hungarian refugees to New Zealand, said the Minister of Immigration (Mr J. R. Hanan) this morning. Three planes would leave Austria for New Zealand on December 31, and two others on January 11. The refugees would land at Whenuapai. Mr Hanan said he was impressed with the first draft, which arrived last Thursday. Most were young, single persons, and it appeared that later drafts would be the same. Arrangements for the reception of the first draft had gone smoothly, and he thanked the organisations which had helped, said the Minister. With continued co-operation from these organisations there should be no difficulty in the settlement of later drafts. Further offers of accommodation for young single men and women would be welcome.
