CRANFORD STREET POST OFFICE

Sir, —We have recently had a post office opened in Cranford street. I have been in several times, but so far have not been able to get anything I wanted. I could not get a stamp. Another person could not get a postal note. My wife wanted stamps urgently on one occasion, and had to take a bus to Edgeware road to get them, paying Is in bus fares. —Yours, etc., DISGUSTED. December 13, 1956. [“The Post Office at Cranford street has been opened for only a short time, and full accounting facilities are provided,” said the Chief Postmaster (Mr H. R. Pool), when this letter was referred to him. Unfortunately, through an abnormal demand for 2d stamps for Christmas cards, a temporary shortage occurred. Steps have been taken to rectify the position, which should not occur again. An adequate supply of New Zealand postal notes is on hand, but British postal orders are not stocked. The demand for these is so small that they are held at the larger offices only. British postal orders may be purchased at the Money Order and Savings Bank branch, Hereford street, and at the nearby Post Offices of St. Albans and Papanui.”]
