ALTERED EXCHANGE RATES

The Canadian dollar made a further small gain over most other currencies last week, but sterling hardened in relation to the United States dollar and several European currencies. Altered telegraphic transfer exchange rates, as advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales, are as follows: New Zealand on:—

New York: buying, 2.7807 dollars to £N.Z.I (compared with 2.7783 dollars on December 10); selling, 2.7493 dollars (2.7468). Montreal: 2.6672 dollars (2.6684); 2.6326 dollars (2.6339). Belgium: 141.97 francs (141.77); 137.50 francs (137.30). France: 991 francs (990); 963 francs (962). Netherlands: 10.72 guilders (10.71); 10.46 guilders (10.45). Sweden: 14.55 kroner (14.53); 14.21 kroner (14.19). Switzerland: 12.27 francs (12.25); 12.02 francs (12.00). Western Germany: 11.72 marks (same); 11.48 marks (11.47). Singapore: 27 13/16d N.Z. to 1 dollar (27 10/16); 28 45/64d (28 37/64).

Chilean Copper Output.— Chilean copper production from January 1 to November 30 totalled 401,191 metric tons against 373,009 in the same period of 1955.
