ADMIRAL’S THANKS

“Thank you so much for providing the guard boat and sentries during Britannia’s short stay in New Zealand. We all admired the smartness of P 3563 [seaward defence motor launch] and the credit and bearing of the R.N.Z.N.V.R. at the foot of the Royal brow. Au revoir and a happy Christmas.’’

This signal from the Flag Officer, Royal Yacht (Vice-Admiral Sir Connoly Abel Smith) was received last evening by Captain J. N. Allan, commanding officer, Canterbury Division, Royal New Zealand Nava] Volunteer Reserve, before the Britannia sailed from Lyttelton for the Chatham Islands.

The original signal will be framed and hung in H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus as a memento of the Canterbury division's part in an historic occasion.
