WASHINGTON, December 16. President Eisenhower won re-elec-tion on November 6 by 35,575,420 votes to 26,033,066 for Mr Adlai Stevenson, his Democratic opponent, according to final official returns for all States except Rhode Island. This gave Mr Eisenhower 9,542,354 votes more than Mr Stevenson in his second contest for the White House. Mr Eisenhower’s margin this time over Mr Stevenson was the largest ever attained by a Republican candidate. It was second to Mr Franklin D. Roosevelt's 11,072,014 plurality over Mr Alf Landon in 1936, when the Democratic President was re-elected. The total 1956 vote was 77.4 per cent, of the estimated eligible votes. Other candidates polled 417,000 votes, making a grand total of 62.025,576 votes cast. This total set a new record, but is only 473,658 more than the previous record in 1952.
