DISTINGUISHED VISITOR
Viscount Crookshank In Christchurch
The Rt. Hon. Viscount Crookshank, until recently Leader of the House of Commons, and a principal figure in the British Cabinet, has spent the last week touring the South Island. In Christchurch yesterday he said he was thoroughly enjoying his holiday in New Zealand.
Lord Crookshank was educated at Eton and Oxford, and served in France and Salonika during the First World War. He entered the diplomatic service after the war. and was appointed second secretary to the embassy at Istanbul, and later to Washington. In 1934 he was elected as member of Parliament for Gainsborough in Lincolnshire.
Lord Crookshank has held office as Parliamentary Secretary to the Home Office, and later as Minister of Mines, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Postmaster-General and Minister of Health. Until his retirement at the end of last year he was for five years Leader of the House, and for three years Lord Privy Seal.
Travelling with Lord Crookshank is his cousin. Captain D I. C. Kilvington. a shareholder and former man-aging-director of the FoundationMaritime, of Halifax, a marine salvage company.
