TROTTING KYLE NURSE HAS EASY WIN IN RANGIORA CUP

Kyle Nurse, which had finished second at her previous three starts, gained an overdue and popular win in the Rangiora Cup, the first teg of the double at the Rangiora Trotting Club's annual meeting on Saturday. She was a firm favourite, and won very easily after leading over the last seven and a half furlongs. A week previously Kyle Nurse had been beaten by the Southland pacer Stylish George in the Waimate Handicap, after making all the pace. On Saturday she was restrained not far from the leaders until nine furlongs from the finish. She then moved round the field to take the lead, and thereafter did not look likely to be caught. A four-year-old mare by Attack from Noble Ann, Kyle Nurse is raced by Mr R. J. Sprott. of Pendarves, and she is trained at Chertsey by J. L. Behrns. who drove her on Saturday. She will probably race next at Ashburton on Boxing Day, and will be likely to win again. The favourite. Next Time, which carried just less than one-third of the doubles tickets redeemed on the second leg, the Cheviot Handicap, gained a good win after leading over the last mile and a quarter. Next Times win was long overdue. Now that he has struck form, he should win again soon, particularly when the class is not too rich. The Kyle Nurse —Next Time doubles combination returned £8 15s 6d for £l. The meeting was held in fine weather, but a blustery wind made conditions unpleasant. Totalisator investments amounted to £37.800, including £3904 on the double, compared with £35,839 10s last year. Rangiora Cup Kyle Nurse went to the front with seven and a half furlongs to run in the Rangiora Cup, and she won with something in hand. She was eleventh when the field settled down, and moved up smartly after passing the nine-furlong post, Morere * following her. Kyle Nurse and Morere were three lengths clear of Lady Belnjer racing to the straight, with Cossack Post. Camber, Bonnie Castle, Cobina. Trojan, and Signor handy. Kyle Nurse took the measure of Morere in a few strides on straightening up, and she won well by two and a half lengths. ' - . Morere, which drifted badly in the early stages, battled on for second, a nose in front of Lady Belmer, which broke at the start and lost a lot of ground. She gradually improved her position and finished strongly. Cobina. which was always handy, held on for fourth, just ahead of Bonnie Castle, with Trojan, Starwise, Signor, and Cossack Post next. Zagar, Greenstone, Clue, and Scottish Isle broke early. Dalene choked and was pulled up with six furlongs to run, Suzendy also being pulled up. Owned in Southland The Southland-owned Next Time gained a long overdue win in the Cheviot Handicap. Floreate was first out, but at the end of three furlongs Next Time was sent to the front. Lord Argyle was close to Next Time at the straight entrance, with Bonny Venture, Floreate, Mendip Song. Rosslyn Rowan, Skydale, and Buckaloo all handy. Next Time fought on gamely in the straight and lasted long enough to win by a long neck. In a eJose finish for the other placings Rene Lou took second place. She was in the first five all the way. and finished strongly? Skydale was about three lengths from Rene Lou most of the way. He challenged along the outside fence, and finished with a tremendous burst. Bonny Venture, Which was very slow early, did well to finish half a neck back fourth, as she covered extra ground. Siberia was close up fifth, ahead of Spring Chat. Rosslyn Rowan, Lord Argyle and Omega. Night Wind. Author’s Note, Marcina, Lord Mack worth, Irish Wit, and Buckaloo lost ground early. Sprint to Lady Belmer

Lady Belmer, a good third in the Rangiora Cun., gained a decisive win in the C. M. Archer Memorial Handicap. She was slow away, but M. Holmes sent her round the field at the end of just over a furlong, and turning into the back she was on the outside of Chief Lady, just behind Emyprian and Gdld Deoro, which were setting the pace. Gold Deoro and Empyrian were still together racing to the straight, with Bonnie Castle and Lady Belmer almost on terms with them, ahead of Chief Lady, Suzendy and Scoot. Lady Belmer was soon clear, and she won easily by two and a half lengths. Suzendy, which was in the middle of the field most of the way, finished strongly for second, a length in front of Scoot, which broke at the start. Scoot was never far away, and he, too, finished strongly. Chief Lady paced a useful race for fourth, a length behind Scoot, with Gold Deoro tiring to fifth, ahead of Bonnie Castle and Legislate, with Palmarie next. Di gnus was awkwardly placed all the way, and was never a possibility. Results:— FIRST INTRODUCTORY HANDICAP, of £200: 3min 56sec class; one mile and five furlongs.—3, -3 D. H.
