OLYMPIC PARK MEETING

EASY WIN FOR PIRIE IN 1500 METRES (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 16. Gordon Pirie, the British distance runner, who will soon settle in New Zealand, easily won a 1500 metres invitation race at Olympic Park, Melbourne, yesterday. Pirie, world 5000 metres record-holder, ran the distance in 3min 52.45ec, and finished 20 yards ahead of the junior mile record-holder, Ron Clarke, who carried the Olympic torch into the main stadium on November 22. The New Zealander, L. Fortune, finished third in the two-mile invitation walk, won by J. Fitts, of Melbourne. The Pakistan Olympic team, waiting to get a plane home, stole the show at the invitation meeting. Muhammed Iqbal. their hammer thrower, beat the Australian and Victorian residential records with a throw of 186 ft Bin. Ghulam Raziq won the 110 metres invitation hurdle race l?y two yards from R. Royce, of Victoria, with K. Kalim (Pakistan) third.
