NORFOLK ISLAND RECEPTION
Duke Braves Rain To Meet Guests (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) KINGSTON (Norfolk Island), Dec. 16. At the end of a three-hour tour of Norfolk Island yesterday afternoon, the Duke of Edinburgh attended at Government House one of the most informal and care-free receptions of his present visit to Australia and New Zealand. Rain fell during most of the reception. and though many of the guests sought shelter under trees or verandas, the Duke stayed on the lawn, mixed with group after group, and disdained any sort of shelter until an overcoat was placed over his rhoulders. Even then he remained on the lawn to talk with the guests. The Administrator (Mr C. H. B. Norman) presented to the Duke the oldest of the island’s 942 residents. Mrs Cobcroft Robinson. She asked the Duke to accept a box made of polished Norfolk pine inlaid with a map of the island. About 400 guests attended the reception.
