BOY INJURED BY EXPLOSION
DETONATORS FOUND IN STREET (New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, December 16. When examining a small silver object about the size of a shilling, found outside the Domain swimming pool at Geraldine this afternoon, Kevin Denley, a Geraldine youth, lost the. ends of two fingers, and received lacerations to his face. He is at present a patient in Braeside Hospital suffering from shock. The object, which proved to be a detonator, was being examined by a group of boys. A match was applied and there was a loud explosion. Denley received the full blast. Other boys in the group escaped injury, although Malcolm Snelleksz received minor lacerations. The matter was reported to Constable P. Dougherty, Geraldine, who found another detonator.
