90TH BIRTHDAY
MRS EMILY ABLETT, OF LYTTELTON Mrs Emily Ablett, of Exeter street, Lyttelton, celebrated her ninetieth birthday yesterday. Born in Christchurch, Mrs Ablett has been a subscriber of “The Press” for 63 years of her married life, and before that her mother, Mrs Jane Harris, who arrived in th‘e Clontarf in 1859, was also a subscriber. Mrs Ablett has lived in Lyttelton for the last 10 years with her son, Mr H. Ablett, a borough council inspector. Her husband, the late Mr Jack Ablett, was a member of the first New Zealand brass band to tour England in 1903. He was a champion E flat-bass player. Mrs Ablett still crochets and can read the newspaper without glasses. Mr and Mrs Ablett had two sons. Mr H. Ablett and the late Mr P. Ablett. There arc two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs Ablett’s sister, Mrs K. Gower, also lives in Lyttelton.
