The Longer Arm
Television viewers in Essex sat up in their armchairs today when a voice from their sets, sounding just like a tough American policeman, ordered: “Tail that guy with a grey stripe down his pants.” It was a tough American policeman. This and other clipped messages, originating from United States police broadcasts, have been picked up in Britain because of freak conditions caused by sunspots —Dovercourt (Essex), December 10.
