BURSARIES FOR MUSIC
OVERSEAS AWARDS ANNOUNCED TWO CHRISTCHURCH PIANISTS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 12. The award of seven bursaries for overseas study in music was announced today by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr S. W. Smith). The bursaries—each valued at £4OO a year, plus £5O return passage—have been awarded as follows: —
Marion Acourt (Auckland), piano: Vivienne Adams (Wellington), ’cello; Heather Beeg (Auckland), singing: Margaret Neilsen (Christchurch), piano; Betty Stewart (Auckland), organ; Malcolm Tait (Christchurch), piano (each two years); Donald Munro (Wellington), opera management and production, one year. The awards have been made on the recommendation of the music bursar selection committee, which consists of Professor Vernon Griffiths, Messrs James Robertson and Stanley Oliver, with Mr J. V. Meech, Assistant-Secre-tary for Internal Affairs, as chairman. Mr Smith also announced that the following have been awarded bursaries of £l5O a year for three years to take the executant diploma course ai Auckland University College.
Tertia Boon (New Plymouth), violin: Elaine Ingles (New Plymouth), violin; Dawn Innes (New Plymouth), violin; MaxJine Moller (Auckland), violin; Robert Pether (Palmerston North), organ; Terence Wilson (Napier), singing.
