ARRESTS IN DURBAN
DURBAN. December 11. Two Indians appeared separately in the Magistrate’s Court in Durban today, raising to 147 the number of people arrested in South Africa on allegations of treason.
The two Indians—Debi Singh, aged 43. a farmer, and Mariemuthoo Praglathan Naicker. aged 36—were formally remanded to appear in Johannesburg. Singh was said, in evidence, to have been for many years, at various times, secretary of the Natal Indian Association. All 147 are expected to appear for preliminary hearing on December 19.
